Blow for Vegetarians

Our eyes-on-the-street tell us that Lifestyles Café, the meatless soul food purveyor near The Loop, has closed its doors, and will open later this week only to sell off fixtures and whatnot.

Their "crab" cakes were delish. We shall be sorry to see them go.

While the food was unique, the service we had was spotty: long wait time between ordering and receiving appetizers, no refills on water, etc.

A. I never ate there, despite being vegetarian. I am part of the problem, not the solution.

B. The place took down the Happy Taco sign upon opening, a piece of advertising that I had long, long, long wished to "liberate."

Doubly tough.

I enjoyed only my first visit to Lifestyles Cafe (shortly after the opening). The service got increasingly terrible and after awhile I simply refused to return. Just because a place is vegetarian doesn't mean I will be loyal to it. Good service matters.

I ate there only once, but really enjoyed it and found the service just fine. A couple of vegetarians of my acquaintance had been eating there pretty frequently and seemed happy with their experiences.

I just remember they were super-keen on that guy's lemonade and lemonade products! (Think "propane and propane accessories")
