Thurman Café, R.I.P.

In our once-in-a-while rip through blogs of interest, we note that, after a long illness, the sister location to Tower Grove South's popular Hartford Coffee Company has succumbed to its apparent defects.

What went wrong there? Too close to the original location? Any Shaw people want to weigh in?

The impression I have gleaned is that the Cafe folks were promised the moon, as far as community support was concerned. The reality, however, turned out somewhat different.

The neighborhood alone couldn't support the cafe. Everyone wants to support the local venues and spaces, but even the most enthusiastic supporter can't make it every day.

A few regulars do not a bottom-line make.

Shaw's island-like geography forces any place to be either a destination or a local draw. Local spaces grow organically, the business calendar, however, does not always allow for such latitude.
